Marcel Wanders – Design Shanghai 2015
The Design Shanghai 2015 will be held on the 27th-30th of March at the Shanghai Exhibition Center. This is one of the most important events in China’s design calendar. More than 300 exhibitors and 60.000 visitors are expected to participate.
One of the most significant designers, the Dutch design icon Marcel Wanders also presents his works for the very first time in China, including the pieces for Christofle, Baccarat and his Personal Editions as well.
The highlight of the event will be the mechanical silver clock of 1.6 meters diameter designed for the French silversmith house Christofle. It was sold out right after its release, the 50 lucky owners could set the three international clocks to time different cities.
His vases created for Baccarat will be also shown to the visitors. For the hand-blown dark and clear crystal pieces he got his inspiration from classic pieces of old times and dreamed this baroquish look decorated with geometric cuts in order to give them a contemporary flavour.
Our favourite line from him is his exclusive series called Personal Editions, created as an experiment to leave behind the industrial techniques and focus on a more direct, human-centered side of design. The pieces where Marcel re-interpreted the Delft Blue technique first used during the Ming Dynasty especially fit the event!
(Note that Marcel is preparing for the Milan Design Week 2015 as well, you can see his collaboration with LG Hausys at Superstudio Group on Via Tortona from 13th April through 17th. We will definetely be there!)
